Sunset has been living in Taranaki, New Zealand for 18 years. His home in the bush is an important part of his inspiration. Tuis feed in the flax bushes. Mist swirls around the house, obscuring the view of sea and city below.
As well as painting Sunset illustrates children's books, paints theatre sets, draws portraits and occasionally dabbles in cartooning.

How I Work
Sunset's inspiration comes from small things that hold a sense of wonder. There is some special quality about his paintings that is tranquil and meditative.
Sunset explores intimate landscapes using his visual memory as source; which lends a touch of the surreal. Part photo-realism, part nature, part fantasy - Sunset's paintings are evocative and emotive.
He paints what he likes to have in his own environment, colour, light, magic, stillness.
Beyond New Zealand, his art has gone to England, Australia, South Africa and New York.
